Winter icebreaking public notices
In this section, we list the Canadian Coast Guard icebreaking public notices. We issue public notices when icebreaking operations are near communities. We also regularly conduct icebreaking operations in commercial waterways throughout the winter and spring. If you see ice, you might see us.
If you see an icebreaker or other vessel, leave the ice immediately; it’s dangerous. And avoid the area even after icebreaking operations are complete. See our ice safety page for more tips.
The Canadian Coast Guard provides icebreaking services to ensure the safe and efficient movement of ships through ice-covered waters in Canada. We also break-up ice jams to prevent flooding.
