Description
An extension of the basic ROC Certificate that covers mandatory components of the international Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) for nearshore vessels, such as:
- using VHF/DSC for:
- safety
- urgency
- distress alerting
- communicating with coast and ship stations
- regulations, including:
- definition of sea areas
- equipment carriage requirements
- watchkeeping on different frequencies and channels
- using sub-systems and equipment, such as:
- receivers
- transceivers
- survival craft radio equipment
Topics covered in this course also include basic features of maritime mobile services, such as:
- radiotelephone procedures
- types of stations, including:
- ship stations
- coast stations
- rescue coordination centres
- pilot stations
- port stations
- vessel traffic control stations
- basic knowledge of publications
- types of communications, including:
- public correspondence
- distress, urgency and safety
- port operations and ship movement
- intership and onboard communications
- electrical and RF safety related to radio equipment
- basic knowledge of frequency, bands and channelization
