Description

Instruction and practice in the skills required and the safe working practices employed by engineers in a marine workshop. Topics covered in this course include:

  • precautions
  • safety issues
  • the construction and use of:
    • knots
    • lashings
    • crane operation
  • overhauling small diesel engines
  • machinery components found aboard ships
  • how to safely lift, secure and rig lifting equipment on board a vessel in machinery spaces
  • theory and practical aspects of the construction of special lifting slings and other apparatus
  • correct selection and proper use of tackle used for lifting cargo and equipment aboard vessels
