Description

This course studies electromagnetism and alternating current circuits. Topics covered in this course include:

  • filters
  • reactance
  • impedance
  • DC transients
  • transformer principles
  • power factor correction
  • the magnetic fields of coils
  • AC waveform and parameters
  • magnetic motors and generators

Officer cadets will also gain competency in:

  • magnetic circuits
  • rise and decay of:
    • voltage in RC units
    • current in a practical inductor
  • alternating current
  • magnetism in matter
  • explaining transformers
  • phasors and phasor diagrams
  • inductance and electromagnetic induction
  • power and resonance in alternating circuit currents
  • explaining the fundamentals of wave theory applied to:
    • sound waves
    • oscillatory motion
    • mechanical waves
  • integrating the concepts of electromagnetism and alternating current circuit analysis techniques in a laboratory environment
