This course teaches aspects of applied mechanics as used by marine engineering officers. This course consists of:

  • gear trains
  • lifting machines
  • friction in machines
  • vibrations and critical speed
  • static and dynamic balancing
  • machine elements, including:
    • screws
    • clutches
    • belt and rope drives
    • brakes and governors
    • pivot and collar bearings
  • the principals of static equilibrium
