Recruitment for the Marine Communications and Traffic Services training program is now open.

Students in the Marine Communications and Traffic Services (MCTS) training program receive their training at the Canadian Coast Guard College in Sydney, Nova Scotia.

Phase I is a 23-week program that teaches the basics of performing the job of an officer. The course is offered in English and French and consists of mixed theory and practical simulator classes.

During phase II students begin on-the-job training at a regional MCTS centre. During this phase they learn local geography and local regional procedures while applying the national standards learned in Phase I. On-the-job training can vary between 3 and 12 months, after which students are certified as MCTS officers.
