Harper Government Announces New Inshore Rescue Boat Station and Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue Assets in Vancouver Harbour
VANCOUVER, British Columbia – Randy Kamp, Parliamentary Secretary of Fisheries and Oceans, today announced on behalf of Keith Ashfield, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, a new Canadian Coast Guard inshore rescue boat station at the Royal Canadian Navy facility HMCS Discovery in downtown Vancouver, to better serve the Vancouver area mariner. The station will provide search and rescue (SAR) services in the Vancouver Harbour and surrounding area, supplementing the robust SAR presence already present.
Canadian Coast Guard Ship Louis S. St-Laurent Returns from the Arctic
The Honourable Gail Shea, Acting Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, and the Honourable Peter Penashue, Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, President of the Queen’s Privy Council and the Regional Minister for Newfoundland and Labrador, today congratulated the crew and researchers aboard the Canadian Coast Guard Ship Louis S. St-Laurent who returned to St. John’s on November 18th after completing summer operations in the Arctic.

Annual Closing of Seasonal Canadian Coast Guard Search and Rescue Bases
The Canadian Coast Guard will close its seasonal search and rescue bases in the Quebec City, Tadoussac, Kegaska, Rivière-au-Renard and Havre St-Pierre areas on or about November 30, 2012. The Cap-aux-Meules base will close on December 31.

Ministers Shea And Mackay Present the CCGS Caporal Kaeble V.C.
The Honourable Gail Shea, acting Minister of Fisheries and Oceans Canada, and the Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of National Defence and Member of Parliament for Central Nova, today presented the second of the Canadian Coast Guard’s new Hero class vessels, the CCGS Caporal Kaeble V.C.

The Honourable Gail Shea, acting Minister of Fisheries and Oceans Canada, the Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of National Defence and John Butler, Assistant Commissioner Canadian Coast Guard, along with Ginette Neveu-Kaeble and Micheline Kaeble-Hébert present the CCGS Caporal Kaeble V.C. Tuesday in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. The vessel is the latest addition to the Canadian Coast Guard fleet and is named for Joseph Kaeble, the first French-Canadian to win the Victoria Cross.

Canadian Coast Guard Ship Sir Wilfrid Laurier Returns from the Arctic

On Friday, August 24, the Canadian Coast Guard welcomed a new vessel to its fleet in Newfoundland and Labrador. The CCGS Vladykov is a near-shore fishery research vessel. The Honourable Keith Ashfield Minister of Fisheries and Oceans with Mrs. Nadya Clowes and Ms. Kyra Fisher of the Vladykov Family, sponsors of the vessel, and John Butler Assistant Commissioner of the Canadian Coast Guard.
