Biographical Information: The CCGS Matthew is a Midshore Science vessel named in honour of the Matthew of Bristol, which was the ship that was used by John Cabot when he sailed to North America in the eleventh century. The Matthew is a hydrographic survey platform, carrying out geophysical and oceanographic work, as well as responding to search and rescue incidents. The name for this vessel was selected based on essay entries from high school students in Newfoundland and Labrador.
