Aids to Navigation Supporting Organizations

The Marine Aids service line is supported regionally by a wide variety of delivery resources and personnel:

  • A system of staffed facilities (Sarnia, Amherstburg, Hay River, Kenora, Parry Sound, Prescott, Selkirk, and Thunder Bay).
  • Vessels based at various locations [types 1100, 1050, 800 (Isle Class), 700 (Mackenzie River), and a series of small craft].
  • Helicopters
  • Contractors at Churchill Manitoba, Lake Winnipeg , Lake Winnipegosis and various other locations.
  • Provincial and Municipal authorities and local interest groups.
  • United States Coast Guard under special agreement.
  • Other government departments such as the Department of Indian Affairs, Parks Canada, Public Works and Government Services, Transport Canada, Environment Canada, etc.
  • Canadian Coast Guard programs of Marine Communication and Traffic Services, Navigable Waters Protection, Ice-breaking, Waterways Development and Rescue, Safety and Environment response, Office of Boating Safety.

Buoy

Administration, management, planning and arrangements for the delivery, operation and maintenance of the aids to navigation systems are directed from the regional office in Sarnia with supervisory personnel at Hay River, Prescott and Parry Sound.
