What the Coast Guard Does!

Boat

  • Helps people lost in the water, sinking in the water, or who's boats are on fire.
  • Puts floating markers in the water called "buoys" so people don't get lost, or hit something like rocks.
  • Clean up accidents like oil spills so animals don't get hurt.
  • Clear paths for other boats during the winter with HUGE boats called "icebreakers".

The Central and Arctic region of the Coast Guard covers a big section of Canada that you can see on this map. (©2001. Government of Canada with permission from Natural Resources Canada)
