Marine Engineering Training Facility

The Marine Engineering Training Facility, commonly referred to as the Machine Shop, is housed in the Louis S. St. Laurent Building and provides hands-on training for Officer Cadets (engineering) while they are at the Canadian Coast Guard College.

The Machine Shop provides practical training to ensure the Officer Cadets aquire the engineering skills necessary for the CCG Fleet. These skills include welding, machining, engine repair and rebuilding, refrigeration, ship refitting, water purification and organization and repair of tools. Proper safety measures are emphasized during all aspects of training in the machine shop.

A large portion of the building holds the College boats that are awaiting repair. The Officer Cadets perform the actual refitting on these vessels as part of the program. Once the boats are repaired, they are returned to the on-site waterfront training facility.
