Blind Pilotage Radar Simulator

The Blind Pilotage Radar Simulator at the Canadian Coast Guard College is a Norcontrol NMS-90. This simulator is equipped with 5 ownship cubicles that are fitted with Bridgemaster 250 and Sperry RASCAR 3400 radars, stylized and real navigating equipment. Usually, only 4 ownship cubicles are used for radar training, allowing the fifth to be used as a lab fitted with real navigating instruments. Ownship 1 is fitted with a six screen visual capability to allow students to correlate what they see on the radar screen with what can be seen outside the bridge window of the ship.

The Blind Pilotage Radar Simulator is used for training ship's navigating Officers and Officer Cadets in elements of collision avoidance, radar navigation, parallel indexing techniques, automatic radar plotting aids (ARPA), SEN 1 and 2 and Bridge Resource Management (BRM) Courses. Marine Communication and Traffic Services, Search and Rescue, Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary and RCMP all use the capabilities of the radar simulator to train their personnel to use the radar effectively.
