Navigable Waters Protection Act

Burned Boat

The main purpose behind the Navigable Waters Protection Act is to ensure public access to, and efficient use of, our water ways. The Amherstburg base supports this program through its involvement with retrieval of wrecks and navigational hazards. Vessels that are discovered adrift or abandoned are stored at the base until claimed by the owner or sold by public tender. The base responds to reports of navigation hazards, by removing or marking them, to provide a safe waterway for the public.
