Prevention and Education

The Amherstburg base provides search and rescue support, but stresses prevention through education of the public to minimize the amount that this service is requested. Within the local area, there are approximately one million recreational boaters operating in close proximity to massive freighters, which makes boating safety and knowledge crucial. The community is encouraged to take advantage of the base's information resources. The base frequently hosts groups of cadets, girl guides and various other organizations, for a tour of the facilities and an explanation of the services we provide.

Prevention and Eduction

Another way in which the base helps educate the community is through the Personal Craft Courtesy Check (P.C.C.C.) program. This program includes the inspection of private vessels to ensure that all required safety equipment is on board. The inspection is by request only and the owner is not punished for missing equipment. Employees of the Amherstburg base offer this service at local marinas throughout the summer, as well as at the base. If you would like an inspection of your vessel you can contact the base at (519) 736-5449.
