Radio Aids to Marine Navigation (RAMN)

Radio Aids to Marine Navigation (RAMN) is a Fisheries and Oceans Canada publication that contains information on radio communications and radio aids to navigation.

Federal law requires that the most recent edition of RAMN be carried on:

  • every Canadian ship;
  • every non-Canadian ship engaged in trade along Canada's coastline; and
  • all ships in waters under Canadian jurisdiction.

About the publication

RAMN is published each April. Amendments to the publication are made throughout the year via:

  • Notices to Shipping (radio broadcasts); and/or
  • Notices to Mariners (section III of the monthly edition).

RAMN is available in two volumes, covering respectively:

  • the Atlantic coast, Gulf of St. Lawrence and St. Lawrence River to Montréal, Eastern Arctic (including Hudson Bay and Hudson Strait), Great Lakes (including the St. Lawrence River to Montréal) and Lake Winnipeg; and
  • the Pacific coast, Western Arctic and Athabasca–Mackenzie Watershed area.
