Each year, the Canadian Coast Guard conducts numerous evaluations of promising new equipment. In cases where there is great potential for a particular piece of equipment, testing may be conducted by the Canadian Coast Guard.
(New and promising equipment are tested to determine their feasibility in responding to a marine pollution incident. In the test shown above, the NOFI Current Buster© is being tested by Environmental Response personnel under several conditions.)
Testing is conducted by the Canadian Coast Guard to enhance equipment operation, update technologically outdated equipment where it is cost-effective to do so, and develop new equipment technologies. In certain cases, products developed by the Canadian Coast Guard find an application in the marine industry. Two such examples are the development of Portable Heavy Oil Belt Skimmer and the development of an Offshore Jib Arm Assembly.
(The Canadian Coast Guard conducted extensive work into the development of the Portable Heavy Oil Belt Skimmer.)
