The Research and Development program encourages the development of new cleanup technologies, seeks realistic and practical solutions to operational response problems, and supports equipment testing and evaluation. The results of these endeavors help the response community react quickly to emergencies. This, in turn, reduces commercial and environmental impacts and minimizes cleanup and restoration costs.
Partnerships are central to the Canadian Coast Guard's Research and Development work. Collaboration with the provinces, the private sector, universities, other government departments, and other countries and international organizations help to minimize duplication of effort and equipment, while reducing the amount of time and money spent bringing new technologies and methods into the field.
