Volunteering and Student Employment
- I am interested in what opportunities the CCG might have on a volunteer basis?
The Canadian Coast Guard has an Auxiliary (CCGA) which is a nonprofit organization and a registered charity made up of volunteer resources throughout Canada. The CCGA has been in existence since 1978 and provides assistance to the Coast Guard and the National Defense with search and rescue and safe boating programs. Please see the website feel free to contact the Auxiliary as you prefer.

- I am going to college this year and I was just looking at the Canadian Coast Guard website and saw that they have programs for students for the summer and I am interested in the IRB program. I was just wondering when I should apply for the summer?
To apply to the IRB program you need to go through FSWEP. I am not sure if you are familiar with this site but when you apply you will need to fill out certain requirements and choose which specific programs interest you. The IRB program is one of the programs. The jobs offered through FSWEP are listed as posters and if you meet the requirements you may be invited for an interview. New posters are usually posted at the beginning of November. My best suggestion for you is to create a profile on FSWEP this November, which is the closing date for 2010 posters and create a profile for the new posters coming out.

- Are there any programs for students interested in maritime Search and Rescue (SAR)?
The CCG employs post-secondary students enrolled in full-time studies to operate the Inshore Rescue Boat Service at selected sites across Canada during the summer months. Further details on this opportunity can be obtained at the Public Service Commissions Student Workforce Employment Program (FSWEP) Website.
