Ships' Officer Positions

Introduction

From the moment a graduate of the Canadian Coast Guard College steps onto a vessel there is an instantaneous bond between officer, ship, and sea. There is an understanding of what a privilege it is to lead women and men through both still and treacherous waters of our great country.

Most Coast Guard vessels operate on a rotational crewing system; employees work a scheduled number of days on board, and then enjoy an equal number of paid days off. Rotations vary by vessel and operations. Generally speaking, the smaller the vessel, the shorter the schedule. These range from 7 days on/7 days off, 14 days on/14 days off, to 28 days on/28 days off. Icebreakers in the high Arctic operate on a 42 day on/42 day off schedule.

We are also proud to offer competitive salaries and benefits; immediately upon admission to the CCG College, Officer-Cadets receive a monthly allowance and their pensionable years begin. Once graduated, officers are guaranteed employment. Salary starts at $41,000, and goes up to $100,000 at the highest level.
