Applicants must be able to meet the conditions of a pre-employment medical, including vision and hearing standards (seagoing only). Applicants must be able to meet the conditions of an enhanced security clearance, having no criminal record that could adversely affect the public trust.

Part of the training for Marine Communications and Traffic Services Officers and Marine Electronic Technologists is also delivered at the Canadian Coast Guard College. Again, you may also study at other recognized marine institutions if they provide the same certifications required for these positions.
In addition, the College also offers Rescue, Safety, and Environmental Response (RSER) training. This training consists of Spill Response Operations and On-Scene Commander courses. These weeklong courses build our Environmental Response Officers of tomorrow.

MCTS Officer trainees apply for positions through the PSC website to work in one of the five regions at a MCTS Centre. The program is divided into three phases; the first phase is done at an MCTS center, the second phase is done at the Canadian Coast Guard College and the last phase is at an MCTS center. There are a total of 22 Marine Communications and Traffic Services centers across Canada;
Electronic Technologist trainees apply through the Public Service Commission website. The MELDEV Program is divided into three phases; some training is offered at one of the five regions (according to organizational needs) and other training is administered at the Canadian Coast Guard College.
