MONITORING CHANNEL CONDITIONS

Waterways Management provides an annual monitoring program of the main navigation channels for the Lower Fraser River and cyclical surveys on the Courtenay River and Mamquam Blind Channel in Squamish. Go to AVADepth to view the survey drawings.

Sounding surveys assist in monitoring sedimentation and in identifying shoals that pose a risk to shipping. If necessary, initiate notices to mariners of the shallow depths. These soundings also provide a means to help monitor and study the river's regime and hydrological changes that may result from ongoing dredging activities or from natural causes.
