A Geographic Information System (GIS) is a combination of computer hardware, software and personnel working together to display, query, and analyze geo-spatial data.
Here at Canadian Coast Guard (CCG), GIS Services Group, we maintain databases containing geographic locations of features (e.g. Lightstations, Aids to Navigation, Pollution Response Sites) and events (e.g. Search and Rescue Incidents) that are incorporated into a GIS. Overlaying 'themes' or map layers reveal the relationships between different types of data that we can utilize to fulfill Coast Guard's Mission of ensuring that Canada's waters are used in a safe and environmentally responsible fashion.
Please use the links on the left to navigate through the site. We hope you find this service useful and we welcome all comments, requests, and questions.
