Captain David Martin

Captain D. Martin graduated from the Canadian Coast Guard College in 1982 as a Navigation Officer.  Throughout a career that spans more than 25 years at sea, Captain Martin served on a variety of Coast Guard vessels. 

Captain Martin also served ashore as Regional Designated Person Ashore, Superintendent Fleet Safety and Security, and Superintendent Regional Operations Centre.  These positions were in direct support of the Coast Guard fleet and programs within the Maritimes Region.

In 1989, Captain Martin acquired his Command Certificate of Competency and commanded multi-tasked Type 1100 vessels as well as the CCGS Hudson, one of Canada’s offshore oceanographic science vessels.

Captain Martin is currently serving as the Commanding Officer of the CCGS Terry Fox stationed out of St John’s, NL.  The Terry Fox provides icebreaking assistance and Arctic resupply in the Canadian high Arctic during the summer months, and from the NL Northeast Coast, through the Gulf of Saint Lawrence, to Quebec City in the winter months.  The Fox also provides ice management and flood control services in the Quebec City area.

In 2003, Captain Martin was awarded the CCG Exemplary Service Medal.
