At the inaugural meeting of the North Atlantic Coast Guard Forum (NACGF),  Canada agreed to chair the Environmental Response (ER) Working Group.  Subject matter experts who met in March 2008 developed the terms of reference for this working group. Substantive progress was made towards laying the groundwork for future work.

Terms of Reference

Mandate:

  • examine common environmental response issues; and,
  • identify and make proposals on the development of solutions to these issues.

Focus:

  • share and document best practices and lessons learned;
  • share ER technology, particularly as it applies to sensitive areas;
  • encourage the development of joint training exercises; and,
  • exchange risk-assessment information.

The ER Working Group shall confine its work solely to issues that are operational in nature and strive not to duplicate work undertaken in other international fora.

Meetings:

The ER Working Group shall meet at least annually.  Between these meetings work will continue at the group level and/or through the creation of sub-committees or correspondence groups.
