Description

This is a practical course that includes the use of knots and splicing for shipboard operations on board Canadian Coast Guard ships. Topics covered in this course include:

  • how to:
    • lash cargo
    • sew canvas
    • tie basic knots and splices
    • use of rope and wire slings
    • coil and throw a heaving line
  • safety issues and exercises
  • the use and care of the types of onboard:
    • rope
    • wire
    • chain
  • safe working load and breaking of rope and wire
  • precautions in the use of tackle for lifting cargo aboard vessels
