The Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) national Memorial has been created in honour of our fallen colleagues who paid the ultimate sacrifice while performing their duty to the Canadian people. This memorial not only expresses Coast Guard’s respect and gratitude to its fallen, but reminds us of the sacrifice some public servants pay.
The Memorial was erected on the grounds of the Canadian Coast Guard College in Sydney, Nova Scotia. The site of the College was chosen because it is our national training centre and is visited annually by employees from across the country.
The Memorial itself is made of granite. The names of all employees who lost their lives while performing their duties are engraved onto the memorial. The names of 34 individuals are engraved in honour of their service to the CCG.
This Memorial pays tribute to our fallen colleagues, those who paid the ultimate sacrifice while upholding our Motto: Safety First, Service Always.
