
Gary Sidock graduated from the Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) College in 1977 as a Navigation Officer.
Throughout a 15 year career at sea Gary Sidock served on a variety of CCG vessels, ultimately commanding Search and Rescue and hydrographic ships. During that time he acquired CCG Command and Master Mariner Certificates of Competency, as well as a Master of Science Degree (Maritime Management) from the Maine Maritime Academy. He has also completed the Living Leadership Program for Executives at the Canada School of Public Service.
Throughout his shore-based career he has served as Director, Search and Rescue; Director, Operational Services, CCG Central and Arctic Region; Director, Maritime Security and CCG Strategic Policy; Director General, Maritime Services, responsible for Search and Rescue, Maritime Security, Environmental Response, Marine Communications and Traffic Services, Aids to Navigation, Icebreaking and Waterways; and, Director General, Fleet, responsible for national leadership and management of the CCG air and marine fleet, including fleet personnel (116 ships, 22 helicopters and 2,600 seagoing personnel).
In March 2011, Gary Sidock transferred to Halifax, Nova Scotia, where he is responsible for the leadership and management of CCG Maritimes Region.
Gary Sidock also has significant international experience as it relates to myriad CCG activities.
He has been awarded CCG Exemplary Service and Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medals, and he has received a Deputy Minister’s Commendation.
